William P. Foster (1919- ) received his bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas (Lawrence, Kansas), in 1941. He went on to receive a master's degree from Wayne State University in 1950, a Doctor of Education with a major in music from Teachers College, Columbia University, in 1955, and the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Florida A&M University in 1998.
